2010 AFL Grand Final Results

September 27th, 2010

It seems that we’re not quite finished with the 2010 AFL Grand Final as Saturday’s showdown between the Collingwood Magpies and the St Kilda Saints resulted in a 68-68 draw. AFL guidelines dictate that the two teams now must meet again in a replay to be held one week later. While the controversial guidelines have plenty of AFL enthusiasts shaking their heads, confident punters who took the 51.00 odds on a draw will be very happy with the result.

Plenty of experts were predicting a big win from the Magpies, and for most of the game it looked like they’d be proven right. The ‘Pies led right up until the final quarter. But, it seems their overconfidence was their downfall as some sloppy playing allowed St Kilda to slowly but surely chip away at the eight-point lead. Then, Brendon Goddard had St Kilda fans on their feet with a stunning mark and goal that put the Saints ahead at the 18-minute mark.

With 3:25 left on the clock, the ‘Pies were able to save their Premiership dreams as Travis Cloke scored the last goal of the game to tie things up. It was a thriller right up to the end, and will now see both teams returning to the MCG on Saturday, October 2 to do it all over again.

Sure a result decided by overtime would have been ideal, but let’s make the most of a bad situation. The replay means that there will be one more week of AFL Grand Final action, and one more chance for punters to get in on the 2010 AFL Grand Final action.
